idéal coffee&bake
This is a plan for a cafe located on Hanamizuki-dori, a central street in Toyama City's culture, lined with a variety of unique new and old stores.
The building was previously used as a bicycle shop, with a garage and a small open space next to the store available for use.
The intention was to use the garage and the vacant lot as a medium to create a store that is open to the town, and to provide a large opening that can be fully opened to the vacant lot.
The plan was to connect the town with the store interior via a staircase that also serves as a bench, allowing the space to be effectively used as a gallery or event space.
The lower wall was painted in two-tone color both inside and outside the store. This minimal work strengthened the connection between the inside and outside of the store, and it added character to the store.
The interior of the store has a simple painted finish, and custom lighting by Tegakari Workshop is used as an accent, while handmade objects made of glass and brass give the space a unique texture.
When planning this cafe, I wanted to express the dignified atmosphere and softness that my friend, the owner, possesses in the space, so I tried to create a space that would beautifully express the worldview and atmosphere that he possesses, without being influenced by trends.
Additionally, in areas of the city such as Hanamizuki-dori Street, where many old buildings stand, we believe that by utilizing the characteristics and layout of the existing buildings and re-editing the ways in which they are connected to and used by combining space, art, food and music, we may be able to create a unique landscape and culture that is unique to a small regional city.
