Overall plan and center house plan for a housing center to be built in Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture.
Based on the concept of "Houscape," the center house is constructed with a continuous gable roof that blends into the landscape of row upon row of houses while retaining a presence as an icon of the facility. Traditional wooden construction methods using mainly general-purpose materials have been used to realize a dynamic, large space while keeping costs down. The overall plan for the facility takes into consideration that most visitors will access by car, with parking spaces located in the center of the site and a layout plan in which the row of houses and the center house welcome visitors. We were involved in the project from the program planning stage, with the aim of creating a housing center that would not simply function as a commercial facility, but would also function as a gathering place for local residents.
