HIBARI NEST
A startup support facility located in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture.
The building consists of three office tenants, including an administrative scrivener corporation run by the owner, a co-working space, and an outward-facing store. The space required was one where the tenants could sense each other's presence and where new interactions could be generated within a unified space.
The site was once farmland, and two sides face the road, creating a difference in elevation. Utilizing this, a split-floor format has been adopted, with each floor gently connected. While the space is a one-room space with a sense of unity, the difference in floor levels creates a comfortable sense of distance and a sense of shifting lines of sight.
Structurally, this large space with a split floor was realized using conventional wooden construction methods with general-purpose materials, and the ceiling structure, with beams arranged in a grid pattern in the image of a bird's nest, is a symbol of the facility's generous and dynamic space.
The coworking space is equipped with counter seats, meeting tables, private booths, and a tatami-floored loft, allowing for a variety of ways to spend time. The centrally located kitchen has a microwave, small refrigerator, and power outlets for the coffee machine all concentrated in an island unit, functioning as a device that encourages interaction in an open atmosphere. The seminar space is also gently divided by soundproof curtains, ensuring its functionality as a private room without losing the sense of unity of the space.
The large windows facing the intersection symbolically project images of users' activities, and benches along the sidewalk and open, outward-facing stores give the facility a sense of connection to the local community, even though it is a startup support facility. It is hoped that this facility will serve as a starting point for fostering a new entrepreneurial culture that values connections with the local community.
